We of the Morro Bay Class of 1977 are turning 50 years old this year. | ![]() |
Although only a small showing of classmates arrived on August 8 we still had a very good time. There were 20 classmates plus guests amounting to about 27 total. I want to make clear here that I truly wanted to see all of you there. I've become somewhat sentimental toward people in general and life has given me quite an appreciation for the human nature. I admire the change and maturity life has given to us as we age.
We began slowly. Marietta and Marleah then Sandy Cook and her husband, Franco helped to tape the table cloths on the six tables at the park. (Remember we moved the location from the Vet's hall to Del Mar park.)
Marietta and my husband, Charles retrieved the six-foot subway sandwiches and many brought a side dish or salad. You could see the surprise and genuine happiness in each other's eyes as one would arrive a little late. The energy was made of true camaraderie and good feelings.
We ate lunch and I was continually distracted with one thing or another and we couldn't get right to the cake. Finally, our official cake connoisseur,
Anthony Barket, let me know that he was ready for cake. I asked him to go ahead and cut it for everyone and it was delicious.
I had been warning people that there would be a test. I had two photocopies of our senior yearbook and said there would be test questions out of the year books. I was asking them to be sure to make time to look through them. As I was handing out the 20-question pop quiz, I was flattered at the willingness to be tested on 1977 trivia. People placed themselves some alone some in groups while contemplating the questions while I played the crabby teacher. When I called time, we self-graded the tests. I went through the answers 1 through 20 then to the extra credit question then the bonus question that only Susan (Lee) Johnson got right. She got the bonus lollipop. David Ion got the most answers right. He won the giant chocolate bars.
Over the years, I have come out of my shyness and while grading the test, I found myself standing on the picnic table bench like some sort of extreme extravert. During that time, I also had a prize for the one with the closest birth-date to August 8. Kathleen (McGuire) Marlo won the Barbie doll and box of chocolate.(Barbie is 50 this year too) Second was Diana (Albro) Hammond. The copies of the yearbooks went to Marietta (Johnson) Gilway who had her's stolen in high school and Terri (Blair) Nighswonger who lost her's in a fire.
As we wrapped up, I heard several saying they had a very good time and that we should do it again.
I thank you all for visiting the site and you are still invited to send your photos and bios to share with us. Send them to ronbradford@yahoo.com.
Sincerely
Rhonda (Bradford) Viescas
